Sevilla 20 is available

[2023-12-11] Sevilla 20.1 is available. This version comes with various new features and improvements. The implementation of an Arena pairing system and the integration with the chess tournament server vesus.org are just two of them. Read on for a more comprehensive list. New and improved features:

  • An Arena pairing system has been added to the possible pairing systems. With Arena, you can pair a round when the previous round is not finished yet. This is to resemble the popular Arena system in online tournament, and allows it to be used over the board.
  • Sevilla has now an interface with the chess tournament server vesus.org. This interface allows import of players and export of results. Typical use is that you can set up your tournament registration with Vesus. When ready you import the list of registrations into Sevilla. When a round is finished you can export the ranking to Vesus, allowing use of the benefits of Vesus, when it comes to modern ease of use and design. You can still use Sevilla’s internal web publishing feature, but Vesus is much more dedicated to the task of presentation.
  • Amsterdams: new features have been added to Amsterdams. Sevilla can now more actively try to improve the color balances an to avoid similar pairings. Also on the website round robin tables for each round can now be generated.
  • A rung ladder system has been implemented to allow tournaments following the challenger/challenged method, where the challenger can pass the challenged when he manages to win. Typically this system is used as a variant of ladder/Keizer systems.
  • Many of the Swiss pairing options have been moved to the advanced Swiss settings form. Many of these options are unused when BBP Pairings or JaVaFo are used as the pairing engine.
  • Delay rounds can now be used with external pairing engines.
  • For rankings score adjustments have been added in the form of Van den Brink adjustments. This kind of adjustment reduces scores against weaker opponents and increases them against stronger opponents. This is an interesting alternative for Keizer rankings, which are often more difficult to understand.
  • Sevilla can now rearrange the tabs within the pairings tab, rearranging the important tabs for the currently selected pairing system to the left.
  • Sevilla can now remember the size and position of the import player form and the quick absence editor. So far this only worked for the main window.
  • Criterion lists for ranking orders and ranking layouts are now anchored to the bottom of the window. This way stretching or maximizing Sevilla will make more options visible at the same time.
  • Groups: A starting table number per group can be specified. This may avoid finding the right table if there are multiple groups.
  • A player can be connected to a fixed table. This is useful for e.g. disabled players who need a special place.
  • Prohibited pairings can be censored on censored saves (e.g. when publishing to web)
  • Player name cards: added extra (smaller) sizes (A6, A7).
  • Absences: External absences can now be valued per absence of type External, if the external opponent has been set-up that way.
  • Byes can be assigned on lowest rating and highest pairing numbers, in addition to the bye choices already available.
  • Saving: added an option “save censored”, providing a competition file similar to the one on the website.
  • In advanced settings, file name related options now have a file open dialog possibility.
  • Excel exchange now has a free mode, allowing import of ad-hoc games.
  • Switched to new versions of BBP Pairings and cUrl.
  • Various smaller new features, improvements and bug fixes.
